All-Star Playhouse is a young actor’s dream of performing in a drama play.
In our inaugural launch, we will be presenting pieces by award-winning playwright, Desmond Sim. Desmond was the first resident playwright in TheatreWorks who worked to launch the Writers’ Lab in 1990 a seminal playwright’s group is still active and relevant today. He has won top national prizes for playwriting, short story and poetry. Over the years he has amassed over three dozen produced plays and two play anthologies. His works have been studied at the University of Singapore and Lasalle College of Arts. He has written two movies and two musicals. Today, he continues with his love for the written word and expression at Academie of Stars (AoS).
In addition to the above, Desmond has also written ensemble plays for upper primary students in our DSA 6 Acting Preparation program such as Panic Room, Six Characters in Search of a Play, and more recently, The Sneeze. His new work Snow White and the 7 Runaways will be added on to the repertoire as we feature our first batch of All-Star young actors in our first recorded Playhouse performance.
This is a program that seeks to nurture the love of acting and storytelling in our youth. It will hone their expressive skills, and boost their confidence and self-esteem levels through the rigour of practice, rehearsals and performance.
Interested young potential thespians are invited to audition for selected roles in these plays.
